Deployed Think Incident Free (TIF) planning to ensure the work could be completed incident free. Conduced daily JSA and tailgate meetings to communicate the work to be performed and the possible hazards associated with the job.
IES Treatment Recommendation
We recommend to confirm the tie-in point, verify current line pressure and MAOP, and to rig up and test all necessary equipment. Mix PipeRenew® solution at 6% concentration and then begin lancing into 2-inch pipeline and monitoring returns. After that, Mix PipeRenew® solution again at 6% concentration and begin fluid packing the line at 0.50 BPM. Once fluid packed, isolate receiving side and pressure up the line and shut in the line at the injection site. Monitor pressure on receiving side of pipeline, mix PipeRenew® solution at 2% concentration and fully flush pipeline and confirm returns are free of solids.
HIGH PERFORMANCE RESULTS
IES Treatment Summary
- Full communication was established after 48 hours.
- Approximately 25% of the 1,500-foot pipeline was plugged.
- Project completed incident free (IFO).
IES administered a total of 14 bbls of 6% PipeRenew® in the 2-inch line before full communication was established. 7 bbls were administered by using a 10K lancing unit where there were continuous returns. Once the returns diminished, IES began pumping the other 7 bbls using the HP 950 chemical injection pump. IES pressured the line overnight allowing the PipeRenew® solution to navigate through the tight cracks and crevices in the deposit, and between the deposit and pipe wall until communication was established.
Full communication was established after 48 hours and an additional 7 bbls of 2% PipeRenew® were pumped to flush the line free of paraffin solids after the plug broke free. The 2-inch Thermoplastic oil line contained a significant amount of paraffin deposition. The exact number of plugs or complete blockages preventing communication is unknown.
The results of this project clearly show the effectiveness of PipeRenew® -- the only non-hazardous, environmentally-responsible solution for cleaning pipelines and flowlines.
